We are excited to announce that the Simple Earth Hops Harvest Brewfest will return to the farm in Dodgeville, Wisconsin on Saturday, August 25, 2012.
This free community event provides a family friendly space with free beverage samples, camping on the farm, kids activities, live music and a pig roast with potluck at 6pm for more than 100 attendees who will lend a hand from Noon to 5pm to pick hops on the farm at 4352 State Road 23 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Ticket registration is suggested to attend or you can sign up at the "Check-In" booth when you arrive on site.
This year, we've added the option to camp at the event site Friday and/or Saturday nights for $20. The Wisconsin Department of Health has taken notice of this event and is making us pay a special camping permit fee of for the weekend so we are covering costs here. If you don't want to pay the $20 online, bring cash to the event to pay on site and sign up for the free ticket here.
Come enjoy the hop harvesting while tasting local craft beer in our friendly community space. This community event will also feature tours of the hopyard with live music and beer samples from Noon - 8:00p.m. A community potluck (dish to pass required) will begin at 6:00 p.m.
A Health Inspector from the Wisconsin Department of Health came yesterday to the hopyard brewfest event site at 4352 State Road 23 in Dodgeville, WI - to issue the temporary restaurant license (for the pig roast) and special event camping permits and he concluded that because we were planning to get the pig for the pig roast from a neighbor down the street that we can't go forward with the pig roast-because my neighbor is not a licensed processor. We will continue to promote and enjoy the community potluck at 6pm but the PIG ROAST IS CANCELED this year.

Simple Earth Hops operates a 1/4 acre sustainable hopyard which is used for education, research and demonstration and is located on Wisconsin Hwy 23, 1/2 mile north of Governor Dodge State Park at Greenspirit Farm CSA in Dodgeville, Wisconsin.
The small scale community based commercial hopyard is planted with many varieties of hops and was founded on the idea of sharing (with local agricultural entrepreneurs) the economic opportunity that growing hops can provide a much needed local food product for local craft brewers. Currently, hops are available in very limited local markets and are mainly available from a controlling group of hop brokers [read: oligopoly] who operate hop mega-farms located in the Pacific Northwest (USA), China, Europe, New Zealand and from other far away growing regions [read: not local].
Simple Earth Hops was established to demonstrate that local farmers can produce a consistent, sustainable supply of ultra high quality hops by working directly with local craft brewers while still maintaining a focus on ecology, the land and the people involved.
